Wrestling.

This morning as I was in bed praying/thinking, I noticed something interesting. The word “wrestle” has the word “rest” right in the middle. Now, that probably doesn’t really mean much to most people, but with the sort of thoughts I’ve been having lately, it means a lot. This bit of a song came to mind:

You wrestle with the sinner’s restless heart.

And I remembered something that I had read earlier from Andrew Murray’s Abide in Christ.

. . .Entire surrender to Jesus is the secret of perfect rest.

For some people, maybe, surrender to God comes sweetly. For most, it comes after we realize that,

We cannot win this fight/inside our rebel hearts.

And this comes after God wrestles with our hearts.

So, when we are talking about God, His wrestling with us leads us to surrender, which leads to rest. Interesting.

There you go, your random Carissa-thought for the day. Happy Saturday!
