What will I find on this blog?

Various and sundry writings, photographs, quotes, poems, and more from the mind and finger tips of Carissa.

Be advised that these posts are about things that I am learning–not things that I have fully grasped. I am striving to apply all that God is teaching me, but I still have a long way yet to go. I am aware that you may not wholly agree with me on some points–that is okay. I am constantly learning new things, and as God shows me more, sometimes don’t even agree with my (previous) self.

Who is Carissa?

I am a young woman who is seeking to learn more about God; grow closer to Him; and glorify Him in my life.

{You will often see references to “God” and “Him” and “He” and “Jesus” on this blog–for me, loving Him dearly, even just those little capitalized pronouns are enough to know the greatness that lies behind. However, my readers may not know Who I am referring to, so I will make it plain. I mean the God of the Bible–the Creator of the world, the Savior, the Judge, the King, the Lover of souls. The One who was, and is, and is to come. The Great I AM. The only true God. The only One worthy of all praise and worship and love and service. The One who died and rose again, that I might live in Him. Him alone do I follow, and Him alone do I refer to as God.}

One of the ways I am going about that is by writing: I am learning more about God through this– He is the one Who created language, and He is the one who created the things I write about and think about. I am growing closer to Him through writing because I need His help, and I am discovering more about Him in the process of writing about things He has created. I am seeking to glorify God through learning to use the gift of writing to the best of my ability, and am hoping to use my writing to help others see His goodness and His ways.

Other ways I am going about this grand purpose is by enjoying and interacting with my awesome seven younger siblings and two parents, working at the family tile store, leading a Bright Lights group with my sister Hannah, and many other little ways.

I am a thinker. One of the most common remarks I get after I say or write something is, “I never thought of it like that before!” I love to philosophize; perhaps too much. I enjoy finding the queer, funny little things in life–and laughing about them. While I am often serious, I am also feisty, curious, random, and daring. I can be quiet for hours on end, content with my own thoughts–and I can talk and talk and talk; once you get me started on a real, important topic (generally something related to God, prayer, family, Evolution vs. Creation, health, or a variety of other things.)

I like things like knitting and reading and photography–and things like archery, sword fighting and tree climbing. I don’t fit very well into any category… the closest I can give you is “Homeschooler.” While I graduated several years ago, I still act and think like a homeschooler. (Which means a lot of different things to different people. So yeah. I guess you’ll find out what brand I am after awhile…) And… My family looks a lot more conservative than we actually are. 😛

I desire to be a small part, by His grace, in transforming our culture to be more godly. I may only be able to influence ten people, or maybe even just one–but you never know where it could go from there. I don’t know exactly how that will look in the future, but I know what it looks like right now–and that is enough for me. I trust Him to show me the next step when the time is right.

How did you come up with the name? Or is it just a word I’ve never heard?

I started out with Authoress, decided that was probably taken, and, in an effort to personalize it, thought of adding “Lynn” to the end– but then decided that wasn’t creative enough, and so I made up a new word– Authoressalin. It ends up being a combination between Authoress, [Authoressalin] Carissa, [Authoressalin] and Lynn [Authoressalin]. It is pronounced: Author-ress-uh-lynn. (Or you can just make up your own pronunciation… that’s just the way I’ve been saying it in my head.)

  1. Is your name Carissa Lynn?! That’s my oldest daughter’s name. What fun! Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I’ve had a lovely time perusing yours. 🙂 I look forward to when (if) the Lord calls you back to blogging.

    • It is! Wow, that’s amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever found another Carissa Lynn yet… and I’m a first born too. 🙂

      You’re welcome! I’ve been following it for a while now, but I’m not sure if I commented before… I’m glad you enjoyed mine. 🙂
